Path of Exile Will Change The Operation Of Traps

Last week we announced Grinding Gear Games (GGG) plans to redesign many of the Path of Exile skill gems. With this publication, a series began in which they continue explaining what they are working towards the new season.

Today's publication discusses some changes to Fire Trap, Bear Trap and Lightning Trap with which we are experimenting.

Fire Trap
The version of Fire Trap with which we are experiencing no longer has recharge time. The purpose of removing said recharge time is that the ability can be used whenever it is needed along with other traps that do have recharge times.

This version of Fire Trap also inflicts additional damage against burned enemies, great to use repeatedly on targets that are already on fire ground thanks to a previous Fire Trap.

On the other hand, we are modifying the Fire Trap's burning ground so that it is much more intense but lasts a short time. We are still adjusting the values but the idea is that using the skill repeatedly in long life goals is worth the effort of the blows and the fire.

Although we still can not confirm numbers, we have increased the damage and the area of the skill.

To keep the skill in line with these changes, we plan to change the Fire Trap from a Level 1 skill to a Level 12 Skill. The current idea is to get the mission's reward for the first time: "The Siren's Cadence". We have planned for a new trap skill to take its place as a reward for "Enemy at the Gate" at level 1. Also, the idea is that this new trap skill does not have recharge time either.

Bear Trap
Bear Trap is another of the skills we are working on. According to our current plan, it applies a penalty to enemies that increases the damage they receive from traps and mines. The trap continues to inflict a large amount of damage on the target that activates it. These two effects should make it a powerful tool for fighting bosses.

The ability will immobilize enemies for a time based on the amount of damage the ability inflicts on those enemies. We are currently testing to also apply a large reduction in movement speed for a short time after the immobilization phase is over.

Lightning Trap
Lightning Trap will also lose its recharge time so you can use it as much as you want, like Fire Trap.

In our trial version, Lightning Trap has a higher critical base probability and gains a higher critical chance against Electrocuted enemies, which should give it a much stronger focus in critical hit. We are making these changes at the same time that we are working on a trap-specific support gem that should interact well with Lightning Trap.

Other Changes
The new trap-specific support gem will provide the probability of generating Power and Frenzy charges when your traps are activated and at the same time it will give you a Critical Strike Multiplier for each Power Charge and increased Throw Speed for each Frenzy Charge.

We are developing changes to the starting point of the Shadow and other groups of traps in the passive tree. The Shadow will have available passives that increase all trap damage from the beginning, instead of having to decide at the beginning between elemental and physical damage.

We plan to add several new Trap skills along with these changes, but we will reveal more as your development progresses.

It is worth taking into account that we also plan to increase the limit of active traps significantly, but we are still doing tests to analyze the risk of doing so.

We may make more changes to the mechanics of trap in the future, but we are still discussing these options. We will probably reveal more when we announce the other trap skills we are preparing and continue to post updates of our plans. Keep alert!
