Boost Your Damage

Items get obtained in a variety of ways: they can get dropped by monsters, or you can get them as a reward from chests. Also, items are sold by NPC vendors and might get bought or traded for a combination of different items. The exchange rates of these items are used by players to aid bartering.

The more mobs you can kill at once, the better chances you have of getting the item drop you're after. Therefore you should concentrate on high-damage skills and area-of-effect (AOE) skills to maximise your damage output and ensure you get your kills. Tackle mobs en masse and use your strongest AOE skills. Curse gems are entirely AOE; use them to your advantage.

Gear Up

Another way of obtaining these PoE items is to collect shards and fragments. In a nutshell, they are pieces of other items, so once you've collected a certain amount; they transform into a whole orb or scroll. Shards and fragments get gained when items are sold to vendors or are dropped by Harbingers.

Equipping stronger gear at any time is a must in any RPG; it's fundamental to boosting your orb drop rates. The caliber of gear you should be aiming for is the highest quality and rarity you can find. Rarity positively influences drop rates, therefore: the higher rarity, the more Chaos Orbs PoE you'll be able to find.

The best places to farm for blue/rare items are the Church Dungeon, followed by the Fellshire Ruins. Only pick up the blue/rare items, for efficiency. Fellshire is not the only place to farm Chaos Orbs, but it's the safest area for all builds and classes. Chaos Orbs tend to drop more frequently in higher level areas.

Set Up A Shop

Lastly, trading with other players will also let you obtain these items. It’s especially useful for high-levelled players, as they tend to earn the rarer orbs and those can't get downgraded to the less rare ones. To determine if a trade is worth it vendor prices are a useful guide. However, it’s good to get reminded that barter isn't just trading for what the item is worth, it's also what the trader is willing to pay.

The forums will be your best friend when it comes to trading. Go to the Path of Exile forums and set up a thread under the 'Standard Trading - Shops' section. With that done, hunt down the best gear you can find. This is arguably a late-game tactic as finding gear higher-level players will trade with you is far easier when you yourself are higher-level too.

Use the forums to scout out good deals rather than selling everything to the NPCs. That will ensure you end up with the most orbs for your time. Make sure to find the best gear you can before selling it; people only want the best. If you try to sell something mediocre, you will struggle to find a buyer.

Orbs of Alteration

You can use Scrolls of wisdom and Rare gear to farming Orbs of Alteration. Farm rare gears and sell them to an NPC. You will receive alteration shards for your efforts which can be crafted into Orbs of Alteration. Keep doing this and you will have Chaos Orbs aplenty.

Path of Exile Will Change The Operation Of Traps

Last week we announced Grinding Gear Games (GGG) plans to redesign many of the Path of Exile skill gems. With this publication, a series began in which they continue explaining what they are working towards the new season.

Today's publication discusses some changes to Fire Trap, Bear Trap and Lightning Trap with which we are experimenting.

Fire Trap
The version of Fire Trap with which we are experiencing no longer has recharge time. The purpose of removing said recharge time is that the ability can be used whenever it is needed along with other traps that do have recharge times.

This version of Fire Trap also inflicts additional damage against burned enemies, great to use repeatedly on targets that are already on fire ground thanks to a previous Fire Trap.

On the other hand, we are modifying the Fire Trap's burning ground so that it is much more intense but lasts a short time. We are still adjusting the values but the idea is that using the skill repeatedly in long life goals is worth the effort of the blows and the fire.

Although we still can not confirm numbers, we have increased the damage and the area of the skill.

To keep the skill in line with these changes, we plan to change the Fire Trap from a Level 1 skill to a Level 12 Skill. The current idea is to get the mission's reward for the first time: "The Siren's Cadence". We have planned for a new trap skill to take its place as a reward for "Enemy at the Gate" at level 1. Also, the idea is that this new trap skill does not have recharge time either.

Bear Trap
Bear Trap is another of the skills we are working on. According to our current plan, it applies a penalty to enemies that increases the damage they receive from traps and mines. The trap continues to inflict a large amount of damage on the target that activates it. These two effects should make it a powerful tool for fighting bosses.

The ability will immobilize enemies for a time based on the amount of damage the ability inflicts on those enemies. We are currently testing to also apply a large reduction in movement speed for a short time after the immobilization phase is over.

Lightning Trap
Lightning Trap will also lose its recharge time so you can use it as much as you want, like Fire Trap.

In our trial version, Lightning Trap has a higher critical base probability and gains a higher critical chance against Electrocuted enemies, which should give it a much stronger focus in critical hit. We are making these changes at the same time that we are working on a trap-specific support gem that should interact well with Lightning Trap.

Other Changes
The new trap-specific support gem will provide the probability of generating Power and Frenzy charges when your traps are activated and at the same time it will give you a Critical Strike Multiplier for each Power Charge and increased Throw Speed for each Frenzy Charge.

We are developing changes to the starting point of the Shadow and other groups of traps in the passive tree. The Shadow will have available passives that increase all trap damage from the beginning, instead of having to decide at the beginning between elemental and physical damage.

We plan to add several new Trap skills along with these changes, but we will reveal more as your development progresses.

It is worth taking into account that we also plan to increase the limit of active traps significantly, but we are still doing tests to analyze the risk of doing so.

We may make more changes to the mechanics of trap in the future, but we are still discussing these options. We will probably reveal more when we announce the other trap skills we are preparing and continue to post updates of our plans. Keep alert!

Path of Exile - Patch Notes For 3.2.2b On Friday

Path Of Exile Royale Mode Seems To Have Rather Seduced Internally

Finally, the Path of Exile: Royale mode was launched on April 1, remained playable for 31 hours during which 27,989 games were played. A "huge success" according to the studio, both in terms of play and reactions from the players.

By comparison, e.g. Ice Spear performs somewhat adequately in crit-based builds against stationary mid-range bosses, but the large number of support gems required to let it hit multiple targets make it underwhelming against groups of enemies, which contributes to it being one of the least popular skills in recent leagues.. Therefore, the Path of Exile team is planning to gradually adjust these "forgotten" skills and make them useful again.

As an example, Cold Snap is called:

"Cold Snap is one such skill on our hit-list. We're currently trying out a version of the skill that still does the instant, large damage hit in a small area (with values increased to bring it closer to the scaling of other cold damage skills), while also releasing a larger pulse that chills and applies a cold damage-over-time effect to nearby enemies. This lets it keep its high damage hit output for those that enjoyed finding ways around the cooldown but also provides notable area damage in a way that makes getting around the cooldown less of a necessity."

In developing and designing new skills, the focus should be on making the new gems fit into a play style or Ascendancy classes. This will hopefully produce thematically matching playing styles.

Of course, there will continue to be completely differently designed skills that will result in completely new character builds. Recently, there were two such skills with Essence Drain and Contagion. In other cases like the Charged Dash it went awry and also in these cases improvements are planned.

"Charged Dash was a skill intended to fill a primary attack role that has built in movement. Path of Exile only has a few skills in this category and only Cyclone and Flicker Strike see much use later in the game. Charged Dash was intended to fill a similar role for Elemental conversion attacks with a unique twist on the gameplay. The skill was balanced toward having an enemy in a position of maximum overlap, while rapidly moving back and forth across them. Complex end-game boss encounters and the rapid precision targeting required in this situation made the skill a sub-par choice for many major boss fights. The damage output just didn't feel worth the effort and risk.

We're trying out a new setup for this skill where the areas of damage don't overlap so you don't need to worry about getting enemies in the zone of greatest overlap. We can then also turn up the skill's hit damage. We're experimenting with having the skill pulse damage repeatedly when fully charged so that having a higher movement speed doesn't result in you having to click repeatedly against enemies. This will come with major changes to how the damage output is modified by attack speed and movement speed, which we're still working on fine-tuning."

  • Fixed a bug where Apprentice and Journeyman Cartographer Sextants could be applied to an Elder Map.
  • Fixed an issue causing Sunblast to have a level requirement of 16, rather than 37.
  • Fixed a rare client crash that could occur when changing areas.
  • Fixed an instance crash that could occur when capturing beasts.
  • Fixed an instance crash that could occur when casting Convocation.
